Mobile Cooperation Team Dispatched to Djibouti (Summary of results)
The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched three members of its Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT), a special team that provides foreign coast guard agencies with technical support on maritime safety and security, to the Republic of Djibouti from 7 to 22 July 2023, with the cooperation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This was the first such dispatch this fiscal year.
In Djibouti, the MCT conducted arresting technique training on how to seize suspects and onboard inspection training using a Djibouti Coast Guard (DCG) tugboat to improve the maritime safety and security capabilities of the DCG.
The JCG will continue to contribute to the security of waters around Djibouti, which is also lies on globally important maritime traffic routes, by supporting the DCG's capabilities.
Since 2013, as part of the Project for Capacity Development of the DCG, a JICA project, the JCG has been dispatching personnel regularly as short-term experts. The training provided to the DCG by the JCG mainly consists of field operation training on maritime law enforcement and trainer development training.
