Technical Cooperation to the Palau Coast Guard
The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched three members of its Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT), a special team that provides foreign coast guard agencies with capacity building on maritime safety and security, to the Republic of Palau from Jan 8 (Sun) to 21 (Sat) 2023, and provided technical cooperation on rescue and first-aid to the Palau Coast Guard.
JCG has been engaging in capacity building cooperation with the Division of Maritime Security and Fish and Wildlife Protection, Bureau of Public Safety, Ministry of Justice of Palau (DMSFWP) through the support of The Nippon Foundation and The Sasakawa Peace Foundation by dispatching officers to serve as Coast Guard advisors and MCT members since 2018.
This is the second MCT dispatch to Palau in the fiscal year 2022. MCT provided advanced training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and transport methods for the rescue of sick individuals conducted in May last year. In particular, MCT provided trainings on rescue techniques utilizing patrol boats provided by the Nippon Foundation, to improve fundamental skills as well as safety capability through trainings for patrol boat crew.
JCG will continue to support Coast Guard agencies in Asia, Pacific and the Indian ocean, and work towards a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
