MCT dispatched to Malaysia

The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched three members of its Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT), a special team that provides foreign coast guard agencies with capacity building on maritime safety and security, together with a professor of the Japan Coast Guard Academy (JCGA), to the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) from January 8th to 14th, 2023 for an IUU workshop. This dispatch was under the framework of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The workshop included lectures on countermeasures against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and UNCLOS, as well as a practical training session for the Long-Range Acoustic Device (LRAD).

The Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, Deputy Director General MMEA and Director Office of JICA attended the opening ceremony.

In the workshop, participants actively asked questions and enthusiastically participated in the training.

JCG will continue to work to support Maritime Security Agencies in the Indo Pacific Region, towards the realization of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
