Mobile Cooperation Team Dispatched to Djibouti (Summary of results)
The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched five members of its Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT), a special team that provides foreign coast guard agencies with technical support on maritime safety and security, to the Republic of Djibouti from November 25th to December 18th, 2022, with the cooperation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the third time this year.
This time, MCT conducted a Visit, Board, Search, Seizure (VBSS) training including tracking and intercepting the target vessel with Rigid Hull Inflated Boats (RHIB) and on-site inspection training.
The participants of the Djibouti Coast Guard (DCG) learned the practical maneuvering techniques that require good judgement for RHIB operations through the training. Development of the DCG's capabilities is not only maintaining security off the coast of Djibouti, but also contributing to ensuring the safety of maritime transportation for Japan. The JCG will continue to support the DCG.
Since 2013, as part of supporting the "Project for Capacity Development of the DCG" by JICA, the JCG has been dispatching personnel as short-term experts regularly. Currently, JCG has been providing mainly field operation training on maritime law enforcement and trainer development training for the DCG.
