JCG dispatched the Mobile Cooperation Team to Batam Island, Indonesia
The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched two members of its Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT), a special team that provides foreign coast guard agencies with capacity building on maritime safety and security, to Batam Island, Indonesia from September 10 to 25, 2022. This dispatch was under the framework of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
MCT participated in the VBSS course program hosted by UNODC, and conducted capacity development for the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) at the VBSS training facility, where UNODC donated to the Indonesia Coast Guard (BAKAMLA) in Batam Island.
In each course, there were active comments and questions from participants. The program provided meaningful and valuable opportunities to consider more support that is effective for PCG and MMEA. In addition, JCG believes this trilateral cooperation among JCG, UNODC and JICA will enhance the understanding and the relationship among the three agencies.
JCG will continue to support southeastern agencies in cooperation with international organizations.
※Since 2018, JCG has contributed to maritime law enforcement training based on the request for cooperation by UNODC. This is the first trilateral attempt to cooperate among UNODC, JICA and JCG.
