The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched three members of its Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT), a special team that provides foreign coast guard agencies with capacity building on maritime safety and security, to the Republic of Palau from May 19 (Thu) to 29 (Sun), 2022, and provided capacity building assistance to the Palau Coast Guard.

The coast guard advisor (CG Adviser) to Palau has been supporting the Division of Maritime Security and Fish and Wildlife Protection, Bureau of Public Safety, Ministry of Justice of Palau (DMSFWP) since 2018 with the support of The Nippon Foundation.

In response to a request, MCT has been continuously supporting capacity building for DMSFWP since 2019.

In this training, JCG MCT provided training on emergency rescue techniques including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and injured person transportation methods with the support of The Nippon Foundation and The Sasakawa Peace Foundation, assuming injured or sick persons on board or on remote islands. Eighteen crew members of the DMSFWP patrol vessel "KEDAM" provided by The Nippon Foundation participated in the training. This program was requested by the DMSFWP in coordination with the U.S. and Australian advisors stationed in Palau.

The CG Advisor also participated in this training, and provided training guidance for DMSFWP officials along with the MCT.

On May 26, Chargés d'Affaires ad interim of Republic of Palau HAGIWARA Mayu, Vice President/Minister of Justice J. Uduch Sengebau Senior, National Security Coordinator Jennifer Anson, Director of BPS Ismael Aguon, Chief of DMSFWP Temdik Ngirblekuu, Australian Advisor Lcdr Neil Krauklis and U.S. Advisor Carlos Ojeda inspected the training.

JCG will continue to work to support DMSFWP in the future as well, towards the realization of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
