JCG conducted "Maritime Search and Rescue and Maritime Disaster Prevention and Marine Environment Protection" and "Maritime Law Enforcement" courses of JICA Knowledge Co-Creation Programs via online for the foreign coast guard officials for a month and a half from 25th October 2021. This program is designed for officials of foreign Coast Guard in developing countries to improve their knowledge and skills in the field of Maritime Search and Rescue, Maritime Disaster Prevention and Maritime Law Enforcement including anti-piracy.
"'The Knowledge Co-Creation Program (KCCP) for Group and Region Focus' is a program which aims to transmit Japanese strengths to developing countries as well as to enhance further co-learning among participating countries including Japan. JCG has been conducting "Maritime Search and Rescue and Maritime Disaster Prevention and Marine Environment Protection", "Maritime Law Enforcement" and "Hydrography for Charting and Disaster Management" courses.
Although usually JICA invites participants to Japan for the "Maritime Search and Rescue and Maritime Disaster Prevention and Marine Environment Protection" and "Maritime Law Enforcement" courses of KCCP and conducted lectures, practical trainings and site visits, both courses have been conducted via online due to the influence of COVID-19 since last year.
1. Maritime Search and Rescue and Maritime Disaster Prevention and Marine Environment Protection course
(October 25th to December 9th)
This course is designed for officials who engaged in the field of maritime search and rescue and/or maritime disaster prevention and/or marine environment protection. In this course, participants learned about the knowledge and skills of SAR and maritime disaster prevention such as methods of SAR, on-site response to maritime oil spill and etc. This course has started in 1982 and totally 562 participants from 64 countries and 2 regions mainly in Asia region had participated (Online: 12 participants from 7 countries) until last year. In this year, 21 participants from 11 countries participated.

2. Maritime Law Enforcement course (October 25th to December 3rd)
This course is designed for officials who engaged in the field of maritime law enforcement. In this course, participants learned about the knowledge and skill of Maritime Law Enforcement such as International Law, counter of international crime, Forensics and etc. This course has started in 2001 and totally 342 participants from 33 countries and 1 region mainly in Asia region had participated (Online: 13 participants from 12 countries) until last year. In this year 20 participants from 14 countries participated.

Participants exchanged opinions with us what their countries are facing in their own countries, on the issues of Maritime Safety and Security and they participated in this program actively. Through the program, we expect that participants demonstrate the results of this program by working on solving the issues and problems which they have in their own countries and contributing to the development of their Maritime Safety and Security operations by utilizing the knowledge and skills acquired in this program.
Japan Coast Guard will continue to cooperate and coordinate with coast guards of various countries to strengthen maritime safety and security and move forward to realize the "Free and Open Indo-Pacific".
