JCG conducted an online-training with Sri Lanka Coast Guard

Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT) and National Strike Team (NST) of Japan Coast Guard (JCG) had an online training on "Response to crude oil spill incidents" with Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) officials under the support of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on October 7th and 8th, 2021.

This online training was designed to follow up the establishment status of capacity building about "Oil spill response" which has been conducted by JCG since 2014. And it was held via online due to the influence of COVID-19.

Approximate 30 SLCG officials joined the online training. During the training, a member of National Strike Team who is engaged in oil spill response gave lectures: Overview of response to crude oil spill, purpose of gas detection, how to use a gas mask and a gas detector, and applied oil recovery methods.

Further, SLCG gave a case study on the fire accident of the container ship that occurred off the coast of Sri Lanka in June, 2021. SLCG insisted that the capability to respond to crude oil and HNS spill becomes an important mission to be improved based the recent accident in Sri Lanka where it has Sea-Lane off its coast.

At the end of the online training, SLCG and JCG had an active Q&A sections, and SLCG officials expressed their appreciation to the online training which was very helpful for them. 
 Toward the synthesis of the FOIP (Free and Open Indo-Pacific), JCG will continue capacity building through our plenty of experiences and achievement to foreign coast guard agencies.
